What is Ayatul Kursi?

Ayatul Kursi, also known as “The Throne Verse” is the 255th verse of Surah Al Baqarah. This powerful Quranic verse is known for its protective qualities and guidance in staying on the righteous path. Subhanallah! Almost every Muslim is familiar with Ayat-ul-Kursi.

Ayatul Kursi Arabic

اللَّهُ لَا إِلَٰهَ إِلَّا هُوَ الْحَيُّ الْقَيُّومُ ۚ لَا تَأْخُذُهُ سِنَةٌ وَلَا نَوْمٌ ۚ لَّهُ مَا فِي السَّمَاوَاتِ وَمَا فِي الْأَرْضِ ۗ مَن ذَا الَّذِي يَشْفَعُ عِندَهُ إِلَّا بِإِذْنِهِ ۚ يَعْلَمُ مَا بَيْنَ أَيْدِيهِمْ وَمَا خَلْفَهُمْ ۖ وَلَا يُحِيطُونَ بِشَيْءٍ مِّنْ عِلْمِهِ إِلَّا بِمَا شَاءَ ۚ وَسِعَ كُرْسِيُّهُ السَّمَاوَاتِ وَالْأَرْضَ ۖ وَلَا يَئُودُهُ حِفْظُهُمَا ۚ وَهُوَ الْعَلِيُّ الْعَظِيمُ

Ayatul Kursi Translation in English

“Allah! There is no deity, except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.”

Hadith on Ayatul Kursi

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) emphasized the importance of reciting Ayat-ul-Kursi in various Hadiths. He said:

مَنْ قَرَأَ آيَةَ الْكُرْسِي دُبُرَ كُلِّ صَلَاةٍ مَكْتُوبَةٍ لَمْ يَمْنَعْهُ مِنْ دُخُولِ الْجَنَّةِ إِلَّا أَنْ يَمُوت

Hadith Translation: “Whoever recites Ayat al-Kursi at the end of every obligatory prayer, nothing but death will prevent him from entering Paradise.”

جو شخص ہر فرض نماز کے بعد آیت الکرسی پڑھے، اسے جنت میں داخل ہونے سے کچھ نہیں روک سکتا مگرموت

Abdullah Ibn Masud (RA) said about Ayatul Kursi

Abdullah (RA), a companion of the Prophet Muhammad (SAW), said:

الله العلي لم يخلق شيئًا في السماوات والأرض، في الجنة والجحيم، أعلى من آية الكرسي

Hadith Translation: “Allah, the Most High, has not created anything in the heavens or on earth, in Jannah (Paradise) or Jahannam (Hell), loftier than Ayat-al-Kursi.”

اللہ تعالیٰ نے آسمانوں اور زمین میں ہمیشہ کے لئے کچھ بھی پیدا نہیں کیا، جنت و جہنم میں بھی، جو آیت الکرسی سے بلند تر نہیں ہے۔

Reciting Ayatul Kursi Benefits

1. Protection and Guidance

Reciting Ayat-ul- Kursi every morning ensures Allah’s protection until night.
When recited on behalf of the deceased, it brings light (noor) to their graves.

2. Spiritual Benefits

Prophet Muhammad (SAW) said, “Whoever recites Ayatul Kursi immediately after each prescribed prayer, there will be nothing standing between him and his entering paradise except death” (Sahih Al Jami, NO. 6464).
Abu Masood Al Ansari narrated that reciting Ayat ul Kursi, along with the first and last verses of Surah Al Baqarah, keeps one safe from hardship and the influence of Shaitan.

3. Protection from Shaitan

Abu Hurairah (RA) reported that the Prophet Muhammad (SAW) confirmed the advice that reciting Ayatul Kursi before sleeping protects one from Satan until dawn.
Reciting it in the morning guards the reciter until the evening, and vice versa.
